Early on, Chris saw the amazing potential of adventure ed and has been using its methodologies to help bring about powerful life lessons. He categorizes what he does as Adventure Psychology - the practice of helping others learn and grow through adventure.                  Chris Cavert, podcaster

What you provide for our students in terms of group dynamics, leadership, and self awareness is priceless! It's inspiring to see you work with our kids when you visit classes, welcome us to the challenge course, and the space you cultivate and nurture on the 7th Grade Trip.                       Nick, 7th Grade teacher

We feel so lucky to have gotten you as a teacher again this year. Cade loves your class and its easy to see why. We hear all about the dynamic way you deliver lessons and encourage participation. We are so pleased that Cade is learning so much. You are doing a FUNtastic job!

Seventh Grade Parents

I wanted to write to you to express my overwhelming thanks for leading such a fantastic trip. Max had the most marvelous time and he learned so much. I can't quite believe that you willingly take on responsibility for 15 errant teenagers for one week in a foreign land, but these children have so much to be thankful for that you led them in such a competent and informative way.  More thanks than I can express!           Ginny, teenage parent

Mr. Schuhmann does a great job of meeting students where they're at. When you see him leading a fun activity he has all the energy and enthusiasm of the kids he teaches!              Beth, middle school parent

Chris, you have a wonderful way of teaching kids how to constructively struggle. When you lead activities you know when to let them keep working and when to intervene and support. You have a contagiously positive energy. Kids feel motivated around you, thank you for building them up!

A leader by nature, Chris, you connect with the students in powerful and meaningful ways. The lessons you help them draw from their experiences in teambuilding, in class, and on the challenge course illustrate an appreciation for a strong work ethic and an ability to help students reflect upon their own leadership style.

Dear Mr Schuhmann,
I have learned so much from you during my time at Dawson, from the challenge course to poetry. I remember you talking about how our names are the most beautiful words to us. How trust is like a window that can be put back together when broken but the cracks will remain (which I acutally wrote a song about after), and how rolling our eyes is the worst possible thing because it's like saying "I would rather look anywhere but at you". You have pushed me to see what I could accomplish, like on the Leap of Faith on the challenge course. I also read the book QUIET by Susan Cain that you recommended me for poetry with Mr. Hansen.  Thank you so much!

Shanti, Dawson Graduate
